Opah!(hey),
This week was great! We were pretty disappointed about the attendance of the members and investigators, so this week we worked super hard to make sure everyone understood and comprehended the importance of church and the Sabbath Day. We marked 8 baptismos last week and this week continued to prepare them all for the water. One of our investigators is super super special and totally prepared by the Lord. She knows a ton about all of the doctrine and told us that she read the part of the BOM that we had marked, but didn't understand, so prayed for understanding and to know the truth of the Book of Mormon. These are the people we are looking for when you know someone is truly prepared, when they know in their heart that the wisdom of God is greater than that of men and they pray for truth. She prayed and of course when the missionaries give a promise the Servants of Heaven will fulfill it. She received an answer and is already super firm in the faith and knows Christ restored His church on the earth through Joseph Smith. She also has a 12-year-old daughter which is a bonus because when the mother knows it's true and is baptized, so is the daughter. They both are great! We also have Mirelly, Valdir, Matteus, Davi, Tiago, and Shirley that are committed.
This week we also went to Tamandaré, another city in our area, and ate sword fish and a weird fruit called cashew with the 1st counselor Brother Valter. In brazil no one uses last names in the church, Irmao (meaning brother) and then the first name, because everyone has the same last name (Silva-- haha)!!! But seriously, Irmao Valter is way awesome. For work he makes jewelry out of cool stones and silver. He makes bracelets out of pearls and silver (real) for 50 reals (about 30 dollars) so if anyone wants a nice bracelet or necklace for way cheap, let me know. Anyway, we were in Tamandaré to checkup on the saints there. The members are way strong in Tamandaré. There are only about 15 and have no where to have church (because they are a small group and it's too expensive for them to come to Sao Jose every week) so they take the sacrament at a nearby school. We are hoping to grow Sao Jose quick so we can focus more on Tamandaré, but first we need a strong foundation in Sao Jose. One of our investys named Valdir already has a way strong testimony. He has a stroke awhile back so its hard for him to talk right and walk, but he still walked all the way to church by himself (no one here has cars to pick anyone up). Wednesday we bought him a drink called Cevada, which is a drink almost exactly like coffee without caffeine, so if people have trouble with coffee, we buy them Cevada. He's great to visit and will be a big help to the branch.
A lot of other stuff happened during the week but stuff pretty normal like walking, teaching and walking some more. The week ended great with seven of our investigators in church. I taught Gospel Principals about the gathering of Israel, which was interesting because most of the adults were investigators and were totally confused (ha). After church we took all the visitors to the baptismal font and explained to them about their baptisms that would take place day 11 of November (woooh)!! It was great and we left the church way stoked! We had lunch with our district president and then all went to Palmares because we had a stake leadership meeting where they told us all the new rules for the new year (a lot of things are changing with in the ward-branch in the church). It was a great week and hopefully next Segunda Feira (Monday) I'll have a bunch of baptisms to talk about! It's getting weirder and weirder to speak English!
