So to start off the week we have been planning and teaching and talking and working trying to figure out what to do about our lack of investigators, people coming to church, and ultimately baptisms. We've got the family of Joao (John) Lucio who are looking really good. This Tuesday we are going to set a date with him to be baptized on the 28th! So that's exciting for us!
The beginning of the week for us really was just hard and the work was extremely stagnate. Nothing was happening and it was hard to not get down on ourselves, but quinta-feira (Thursday) was our turning pointing of the week and maybe my turning point of the mission in a lot of ways I can't describe. Elder Vargas and I went on splits with the APs of our mission. They are amazing missionaries! I split with Elder Clark who is an American from Northern California and speaks Portuguese like a pro. He's got 6 months left and knows what he is doing as a missionary. Earlier in the week we taught a girl who had received an answer that our church is true and the BOM also, but she liked her church and her whole life has been kind of entrenched in this other church so she wouldn't accept baptism. I asked her, "so you know this church is Christ's church on earth and the only church with the authority of God," she said "yes". But then she would not accept the invitation to be baptisms, but of course Thursday, Elder Clark taught with me and set a date for her so that's super exciting and I'm still not sure how he did it!
After that we also found a way good family that has potential to be baptized the end of this month too. Elder Clark has a way about him that everyone likes and he could probably baptize anyone he wanted. It's crazy, but way cool and I learned a lot from him.
At the same time Elder Vargas split with the Brazilian assistant and they found a couple new investigators, one who we challenged to be baptized and she accepted also! What the heck! The whole week is slow and then boom, the assistants come in and baptize the world! Way cool! So just from that day we have a bunch of new investigators all who have a lot of potential.
On Saturday Elder Vargas and I taught Giselma, elder Vargas and the Assistant had found her on Thursday. So on Friday she decided to take the challenge and read and pray about the Book of Mormon. It turned out that her son (a 2 year old) removed the marker marking the page she was supposed to read, so she looked and looked and couldn't find the right page. She had her husband look and look but he couldn't find it either. So she prayed to receive an answer about the truth of the church and to find the right page to read. When she got done praying she opened the Book of Mormon and the first page she opened was the page they marked. It was Moroni 10:3-5. She cried when she told us what happened and that she receive an answer. It was such and awesome experience and we set a date for her to legally marry her husband and get baptized. Elder Vargas and I left the lesson so excited. God is watching over those who really search to know if this church is true. Hallelujah!
Sunday was great and we got a ton of less actives to church and investigators, but three of them need to be legally married to their spouses so that will take a little time. Over all this week was great! It's still raining about everyday and the weather is still pretty hot and humid but the nights feel great!
Oh and i figured out my favorite food here. It is food imported from the US! (haha jk)
