hard at work training 7-2-12

Hey From Recife!

This week was a lot of work but ended up pretty well, We did a ton of tracting door to door and just getting to know anyone on the street. I can talk quite a bit but some things people say I still don't get exactly right but luckily I've got Elder Vargas to back me up when I say something wrong. But he is still pretty timid so just about every door and lesson I do most of the talking, which is funny because he speaks Portuguese, but he's getting more and more out of his comfort zone so the lessons are a little more even.

This week we found a woman who told us that she was missing something in her life but didn't know what it was and was searching for the answer. It was like she was saying the words right out of Preach My Gospel. Luckily I had one last Book of Mormon in my bag and bore my testimony that we had what she was looking for and a bunch of other stuff. It was way good but her schedule is a little hard to work with (like everyone here) so we are hoping we can get back with her soon and talk more with her and her family. We have a couple other people that seem like good potential, but everyone's schedules are impossible to work with and no one wants to come to church and that is central to baptism. No church… no baptisms. The people here really just don't like us and don't want anything to do with us, and if they do let us in they immediately pull out the bible and try to argue scripture that they don't know anything about. It's pretty sad but we leave quickly out of the houses of those people. We met a couple of ladies here who we tried to talk about eternal families with, but they said they didn't like their families and really could care less if they went to heaven or hell, which is the mindset of a lot of these people. They don't realize really what they could have after this life.

My companion is from the south part of Brazil, which is famous for their meat, so he knows how to cook meat and a lot of other good stuff so that's nice. Last night we made French fries and the steak he cooked was from the celestial kingdom! Saturday we moved all of our stuff into or new apartment. Hallelujah! So we will move tomorrow when the water is on in the apartment.

Today the 4 of us went to a place called Olinda (oh Beautiful). It's a cool little town that's really colorful and really high up on a mountain so you can see all of Recife and it is so amazing! I took some pictures but it was cloudy so they really don't depict what it really looks like.

Its been raining a TON this last week so its been pretty hard working. A couple nights we tracted in the rain for awhile and a ton of our stuff got wet. But things are good here in JD America, hard, but hard work is good work and does a lot of good things in the end for you.
Com Amor,
