stick & tennis ball street games 8-20-12

Oi todo Gente!

Esta semana foi muito legal! First of this week sounded great from the family, hearing about Robert’s baptism and how well it went makes me want to cry. And, just how blessed everyone is at home makes me feel so good! I’m so happy to hear how well everyone is at home.

Last Monday for p-day we played a game that elder Cavalcanti played as a kid, kind of like baseball, but a lot different with sticks and a tennis ball. We gathered up a bunch of the kids on the street and played in a big field which was super fun and got a lot of contacts that way. I think we will play again today to find a few more families to teach. We’ve been doing a lot to try to find people to teach and one of the new ideas we started is Capoeira class with one of the members. Capoeira is like fighting, but a dance that a lot of people do here in Brazil. It’s super cool. English class has been going good and is always fun to try to teach our weird language.

This last week we found out that our other group that is part of our branch in Tamanderé can’t have a church paid building because there aren’t enough people in the group/branch so they have to move into the relief society president’s house to have church and our building will get the stuff that was in there building like the computer, ping pong table, etc. So that’s been kind of sad for a lot of people, but it’s hard for them to grow when they don’t have missionaries there every day. It’s expensive and hard for us to travel back and forth.

This week was pretty normal but we had three people with answers after they read and prayed about the Book of Mormon so hopefully soon they’ll get in the water. Sunday we had a district conference (like a stake conference) and we hired a mini bus to come pick our ward up to drive all the way to Palmares (where our stake center is).  That was pretty fun and a great experience. We had a member of the 70 there with us and President Lanius with us.  I also met a Brazilian that new Michel Slater in the MTC because. They both served in Japan. That was really ironic (his name is Julio Da Silva).

In sacrament meeting there was a little boy yelling and spitting and throwing things and giving us the bird and calling us -vagabonds- haha in front of us. We didn’t know what to do with him because only his grandma was there and she just sat there. I was leaning forward to listen to the 70 and all of the sudden the little kid spit right in my face after he just ate a cookie that another elder gave to him. You could hear a great big moan in the whole room... ha.  It was kind of embarrassing. But after that the other elders that knew him took him out and eventually sent him home. So that was an interesting meeting.

I received another box from my amazing family with a lot of good stuff that only America has, Reeces, Butterfingers, jerky, and Lucky Charms. None of those you can find in Brazil.

I got a letter from Kyle and Marcus and Kyle is in Wales which is super cool! Marcus sent me a ridiculous picture that looks like he is here in Brazil. I think the Dominican Republic is a lot like Recife. Over all, this week was great and every day things are improving here in Sao José with a lot of work.

Love you all and hope you have a great week.
