20 new people to teach “lift where you stand” 9-24-12

He-heyyy!! Oyyyy! todo Mundo!

It’s been a crazy week but great! Unfortunately the baptism of Mayara fell through (the sister of Douglas who we baptized a few weeks ago) because her mom still doesn’t think she is ready to be baptized which was sad, but we are still working with her and her whole family and started teaching her friend Roseline which has been good. We almost had a date set for Karol but she has work every Sunday and didn’t make it to sacrament meeting yesterday and the investigator needs to attend church two times to be baptized so that was a bummer. Also, Flavio Aminal (the karate guy) has been slacking on church attendance and still hasn’t officially gotten married to his “wife” so that’s a problem.

The good news this week is that we found over 20 new people to teach and our group of people we are teaching is over 40 now, so the people are here and ready they just need to do their part to reach baptism. Elder Cavalcanto and I are working hard and doing all we can to get the people here in the water but o inimigo (the enemy) has a lot of control here in Sao Jose so that’s making it pretty hard. This week has been a huge blessing though with the people we have found and the work that is getting done. I will be killing (sending home) Elder Caval here soon so I’m trying to figure out everything that I will need to know how to do and teach my new companion. Directing on Sunday was a lot better (with the language, etc.), but probably still pretty interesting for the congregation.

One of the families we have been teaching is an older lady and her two sons and all their friends. Every lesson with them reminds me of a FHE with our whole family and all the crazy kids, but it’s great because all the kids love us in that part of the Biho (neighborhood) and are always playing around with us. We also have been teaching a family that owns a little ice cream shop and really needs the gospel, they are a great family but for some reason it’s just super hard for them to get to church. That’s probably one of the most frustrating parts about a mission is teaching someone really great and everything is going well and then they don’t go to church. Normally we would pick them up, but we have to be at the church early to get everything ready since we are running the branch.

Breck mentioned to me the talk by President Uchtdorf “Lift Where You Stand”. That probably describes best what we have to do here, just be patience with the work that has to be done to grow the branch. Unfortunately, lots of the new converts have been missing out on church even after we visit them during the week. There is so much that is out of my control, it drives me crazy (ha ha).

This next week we get to go to the Temple again with our district which will be way cool, and general conference is soon...hurrah! But we have to go to Palmares to watch it (one and a half miles away) and it’s also voting day which is just a big problem for everyone here, so we’ll see how that plays out soon. It will be so great when voting is all over because for the last 3 months big cars have been driving all over screaming political music that makes it hard to think, teach, or have any time of peace.

Well that’s a little of our week, I hope you all had a great week too and a great one to come!

Love you all!
Elder LeSueur

PS- A funny from brazil--- here, the letter “X” is called “shiz”, so the X-box is called the Shiz-box (ha ha ha ha).
