only convenient commandments? 5-28-12

This week was great. It’s been kind of crazy still with the threesome but a little variety never hurt anyone and on the mission I enjoy when things change up a little and are different than normal. So we have been working in two areas right now and going to 2 wards, and I realized that the sacrament water is from the sink, which is really really bad....but it was blessed right? Anyway, I’m alright and our building got new benches which was kind of cool. We were planning for a baptism this Sunday but the day before Wilton didn’t pass the interview...so hopefully this next week he will pray and read and his testimony will strengthen. One problem here is that everyone believes in God and the commandments, but only follow the ones that are convenient for them. But we still decided to clean the baptism font Saturday because we know we will be using it soon and it was pretty nasty.

It’s been raining a ton here and I had the opportunity to wear the rain boots we have in our apartment which was pretty funny. The rain makes it a tiny bit cooler but mainly just more humid. Today Elder Ferreira finally got his new companion and I’m sorry to say that we haven’t moved houses yet, so we are back to 4 people in the house. But today was fun traveling to the City Center and talking with a bunch of other missionaries also getting transferred, Elder Ferreira’s new companion is from New Jersey and speaks way good. He has been out 7 months. While we were out in the big city me and Elder Sacilotto bought NASA pillows! I call it my moon pillow and its super comfortable. I also had an interview with the President which was amazing. Every time I see him or talk to him I get the chills. All these great men in the church amaze me! But that was great speaking Portuguese with him.

This week we also have found a couple of families that are looking good, but like everyone have another church that is holding them back. The other churches here are crazy. People yelling and crying and screaming hallelujah! Kind of like the churches where Tye served. I think Recife is a lot like the south in America with the hillbillies and less intellectual (ha). I hope that’s not mean, but the people here are pretty simple minded and will go on and on about how great Jesus is and not doing anything about it...all talk and no action. It’s frustrating. These others churches make the people deaf to the truth literally. Bem triste bem triste (way sad). There is no such thing as Dr. Pepper here and everyone is amazed with coke. They are always asking me about it. This week I had apple pie. Good old American apple pie. Everything is becoming much more normal and the language is coming everyday! Love you all!
