Hey!
This week has been different but at the same time pretty normal. The work continues to be pretty tough with these people, they have a hard time with commitment and opening their eyes. But we have set a goal to get Wilton baptized this week or next. He just needs a really strong spiritual experience to really help him realize how important this is. So this week we are going to put together a testimony meeting for the youth in the two wards and have a great spiritual feast of spirit! We also have a couple other families that are looking ready and interested so we’ll see what comes of them in a week or so. Getting these people to church has also been a struggle. On Sunday we and the Bishopric walked around the little favela of JD America to get a few investigators and menos ativos ( less actives) to church. It was great out working with the bishopric but a little depressing because two young men we went to pick up were in front of their houses but said they were busy...but they weren’t, they were just standing there doing nothing. Sooo... we are trying to figure out how to better that situation and get them to church. The ward we are in is great and trusts me and Elder Sacilotto a lot so they all have been trying hard to help out in lessons and get references for us. A good group of ward members is key to the ward missionary work.
The Recife Temple was yesterday and that was amazing! Its so good to get back into the temple, but the session was in Portuguese so it was a little more difficult than usual. This was my first time to be able to go to the Temple in Recife. Unfortunately the mango trees outside of the temple were not in season of course, so hopefully I’ll get to go back in Dec or Feb and eat mangos after a session :) But this time we had to stick with the cookies in my backpack which weren’t too bad either. Before the Temple we got to walk around in the huge mall next to the Temple. It had 6 floors! It is huge! But the Mall is a pretty boring place for a group of missionaries. The best part was the view of the Temple at the 6th floor.
We are still living in the same house which I’ve gotten used to finally so it’s not too big of a deal, and it’s nice having two other elders when you don’t feel like talking to yours. We also moved a few things around so there’s a little more space. Tuesday we went on a mini split and visited the new apartment of our district leader and it is super nice. They’ve got a little balcony with a hammock and at night it feels way good, but they said they deserve it because they have lived in some pretty bad places in the past. It is and always will be hot during the day but the nights feel good, so the weather I’ve gotten used to and is fine. Oh, we also ate at the Temple yesterday and met Elder Mullenaux’s trainer, but I guess his area got switched so he is somewhere else. And it sounds like his stomach has been hurting or he has been sick?
Oh something amazing happened a week ago! I got a box full of American candy, pens, cereal and other stuff!!!! Whooo, the other elders were pretty jealous, but I shared a little (ha ha). So this week has been great eating cereal every morning and peanut butter for dinner :) Thanks Grandma and Melanie!!! Dad, I got the cable finally, but not the box or anything else so I’ll let you know when that comes. I got the letters from my other missionaries friends Mom sent and that was cool to hear about them, but Wes didn’t say much so ill have to send him a letter to find out a little more. Well, everyday is better and better and the language is also getting better and better.

PS: There is this one house of members that we go to all the time for almoco (lunch), and they have their grandma living there. She has got to be around 110 years old. When they bring her into the kitchen to feed her she seems...dead. But as soon as they put her back in the other room every 5 or so minutes she screams really loud! It scares me super bad. She’d be great in a scary movie.
