Dear Family,
Mom, thanks a ton for the giant email. It's good to know what's up each day there. I wish I could say that each day here also was jam packed with fun things going on but.... It was a lot of the same thing.
This week we did EVERYTHING to get the 3 boys all ready for the baptism. We ran around picking them up to go to soccer at the church, English class that I've been teaching and the interviews and everything, but when we got there early Sunday morning their parents had taken them to the beach at 6 am so that they couldn't be baptized. What didn't make sense is that EVERYONE was excited about the baptism, even the parents, and we were there every day making sure all was good. Satan is just too good sometimes, so good that we were pretty sad the whole day yesterday. My companion whose got 6 months left on his mission said that he was going to go back home to São Paulo rather deal with the silly people here.....but we talked and talked and talked to the other elders and some members at church and all is well now. We've gotten over it and are even laughing about the whole thing now. How ridiculous some people can be. We'll just try to make sure not to waste time with people who want to waste the Lord's time but make sure we spend time with those who really want the Lord in their lives. Other than that the week was great, a lot of knocking and teaching and walking and chasing.
Another crazy story. There's a crazy guy in our ward who we ate lunch with a week ago and he was super rude to us. Well, turns out that Saturday he got mad at the bishop for talking to his wife in the parking lot of the church and then tried to start a fight with the him (the bishop is like 75 years old). When he saw that the bishop wouldn't do anything he ran up to him and hit him super hard so that he flew like 10 feet (a stake youth activity just ended so everyone was there watching). He started toward the bishop to beat him up but the other men in the ward held him, threw him in his car and made him leave. Poor bishop! There's a lot of weird stuff that happens in the church here.
Anderson and his wife are doing great, they both went to church Sunday with their cute little 5 year old daughter (I should have taken a picture with them) and they all loved church. We are just waiting for the marriage papers to finish to do the baptism. I sat with them in sacrament meeting and when they sat down Anderson whispered to his daughter "now we are really in the house of the Lord." Way cool! Also at the last minute the bishop called us to give talks at church. It was probably the worst timing ever because were both pretty much without the spirit and depressed because of the 3 boys who were supposed to be baptized but didn't make it. But talking in church helped. All is well; we're pushing through.
Thanks again for the email Mom and the updates. I'm way excited for the Gilbert Temple open house! And congratulations to Austin's sister Kami and Cassie on their weddings! Everyone is getting married or going on a mission…..crazy/good stuff!
Love you all and have a great week, Elder LeSueur
PS- That's a crazy story about the Allie and the sales guy that wouldn't leave and tried to open the door. That reminds me of us knocking doors, except we leave when someone tells us to come back later. Allie knows about the 12-gauge shotgun in the closet, right?
