Dear Family,
This week was great! We pulled off a baptism with an old gentleman named Soarez, who looks American but is Brazilian. I sent a picture of it. It was pretty simple. He wanted to be baptized Saturday morning at 9 o‘clock so none of the members came, except for the bishop and one other member in the ward and our zone leaders from Boa Vista. I decided that simple baptisms are the best and usually turn out the most spiritual. Elder Moore and I sang before the baptism and that went well because Elder Moore has an amazing voice and harmonizes like he’s from Texas. The baptism was great and he was confirmed the next day in sacrament meeting, which I thought I was giving a talk in but the last minute the member showed up and I didn’t have to give it, which happens a lot. The missionaries are always the back-up plan for everything.
This week was a pretty normal week. It’s been super hard to find people to teach. Most people here are pretty closed minded and don’t want to talk. It’s way different than my last area because everyone here is Catholic. They all say “I was born Catholic and I am going to dies Catholic”, and when they get to heaven and there is no glory or kingdom called Catholic they are going to be super confused.
We have been teaching a family with an elderly lady and her daughter. We’ve gotten a bunch of new people to teach this week but they are all super mully (don’t want to make any commitments and really are just religiously lazy). We’ve been trying to work a little more with the members but they claim to have given all their references to the last missionaries and don’t know anyone else so that’s our problem right now because knocking doors hasn’t been too effective here but that’s what we have been doing lately.
Football last Monday was great except that we ending up being super sore all week and going up and down the huge hills here while being sore was horrible. But after a couple of days it went away.
We have been teaching a girl named Ianara who will probably get baptized this weekend but still is hesitant. Her problem is that she has been going to the Baptist church for the last 20 years and is still used to all the things they teach. It’s weird to her that after going to church her whole life she has never heard about the Book of Mormon or latter-day prophets. Like what the heck, why is there a prophet and I didn’t know about it, type of thing. How could the true church be on the earth and after 20 years I’m finding out about it!? So we are working with her, Luckily she is married to a great member in the church who is helping out a ton.
If there is one thing that I have realized that’s important in life it is having a family, really studying and digging into the church with your family and having prayer and scriptures every day. You can tell which families are the strongest and happiest by the ones that do the scriptures, prayer, and FHE when they are supposed to. The example the parents have on the children is huge! Families truly are a blessing that God gave to man and the Gospel is THE blessing that God gave to families. That is my lesson for the week.
Well sorry I didn’t write too much. Nothing way different happened this week. Kind of the same old.
Love you all and have a great week!!!
With love,
Elder Nate P. LeSueur
