Hey family!!!
Glad to here that you had a such a full week and that this next week will be even more full, with Breck and Nan going to visit Mel in Boston and their kids staying at Grandpa D and Mimi's ;) Also it's good to here that Dad is getting better and on his feet and bike like normal.
As for Elder Moore and I here in Garanhuns we had a great week. Unfortunately no baptisms but we were able to teach a ton and find a new good investigators. I sent a picture today of Moore and I and Fernanda, one of our investigators who has a horrible depression problem and cant seem to stay happy. She is only happy when the elders and members are here with here. We try to explain to her why that is and how she can have that happiness with her always, but I don't think it's exactly sinking in yet. She is a great great great person but has had a ton in her past that has kind of scared her and it's hard for her to forget the past and move on. Luckily that's where the lesson of the PLAN OF SALVATION comes in. Hurrah for God's perfect plan. Unfortunately I'm not a perfect teacher but the spirit helps us in the places where we are weak. Funny story… on Thursday we really felt like we needed to pass by her house and talk to her. We got there and she wanted to talk but her daughter had left and taken the keys with her so the door was locked. She lives in a house that sits on top of a little shop, so it's the second story, but on the front of her house she has a huge window. So we decided to climb up the house and go through the window, which we did. It was a little scary but not too bad and super funny. We were all laughing like crazy when we finally got in and then had to leave through the window again. Fernanda couldn't believe that we had climbed up the front of her house to talk to her but she needs the missionaries so much that we were willing to do anything to talk to her.
As for other investigators we are teaching a man named Christiano who I might have talked about already. He has a crazy life and we really felt like he had the will and the potential to be baptized, so we passed by his house and people said that he was in jail so we stopped going to his house. But this last week an old man asked us to pray on the street with him because his head was hurting. His name is Manuel and I'm pretty sure God used him to show us that Christiano needs us still because we said a prayer with this man who was acting a little crazy and then walked to his house with him. It so happened that he lived right in front of Christiano who was HOME and not in jail. We talked to him and found out that the getting arrested thing was a whole misunderstanding because I guess the friend he always gets drunk with tried to shoot some other guy but missed so they took Christiano in to ask him questions. We talked to Christiano and told him that Sunday we would pick him up to take him to church and meet the bishop. He seemed way excited and said he wants to be baptized soon. Sooo....Sunday morning came, we went to pick him up and he was drunk, but he still wanted to go, so we took him, and on the walk there he tried to buy cigarettes! Elder Moore stopped him and asked what he bought. Christiano pulled out a cigarette and all Elder Moore said was throw it away, NOW! (We had to be pretty rough with him, he was drunk) So he threw it sadly on the ground and we finished our walk to the church. Oh wait, but right in front of the church is a little fruit and vegetable shop. He walked inside, we told him that if he went in to buy cigarettes we were going o keep walking and just leave him. He went inside and we kept walking. I looked back and he had taken 2 tomatoes and was eating them like apples and it was going all over his shirt. He smelt like smoke, beer, sweat and tomatoes. We stopped outside of the church and got Bishop to ask him if Christiano was able to go in and watch each class, he said of course! The first two classes were horrible. He kept saying crazy things and telling weird stories about Moses and how the police took his kids from him. Finally during gospel principles we took him out because we felt like his bodyguards trying to keep him quiet and in his seat. He asked us if he could take a shower in the church. There aren't any showers in the church so we said no, so he asked to go to the bathroom. We waited outside the bathroom and he came out soaking wet. I don't know why or how. Then he started complaining about how hungry he was for beans and rice. He said to give him 2 minutes and I'll find a place to eat a big plate of beans and rice and be back. So he ran out of the church and we haven't seen him since. He's a great guy when he is sober, but one thing is for sure, I'll never take a drunk person to church again.
As for Jr. who we baptized last week, he is on fire. He received the Aaronic priesthood yesterday at church and I gave him a white shirt and pants as a present and taught him how to tie a tie. So he is all set and helping the ward out a ton with references and home teaching. He is so awesome and we all are so happy with him and his family (Adriana his wife). We've got quit a few people that we are teaching but I think this week we will have to kick a bunch of them. Also, we are starting to work with the members a lot more and will start this thing each week called Mini MTC, where the members will come to learn how to be a missionary and we'll teach them. It should be pretty awesome.
Things are great here. I don't want to leave this area!
Love you all and hope you have a great week!!!
