another week in jaboatão dos guararapes massaranduba (9-23-13)

Dear Family,

Thanks dad for the email and the pictures. It’s good to see that everyone is great. Trevin looks like a pro playing soccer. I’ll bet he plays a lot better than me. Also that’s way crazy about Tanner returning home from Mexico. He’s the best!  Haha-- he totally would wear all those extra clothes on the plane that wouldn't fit in the suitcase to save the money. Smart elder! I’ll bet he about died from the heat!

Another super fast week here in Jaboatão dos Guararapes Massaranduba. Try to say that 10 times fast ;) Or even 1 time (haha). I don’t remember if I mentioned yet but I live in a little house of 4 elders so it’s a little bit of a blast, but we all like to work so it’s fun. But we still get the work done like it should be done. In about a week I think we’ll be moving a little closer to our area. Right now we have to walk a little ways to get to our area but it’s cool. This last week we had a mission conference and the Recife Temple president and his wife gave great talks about working and working effectively and not sending negative emails and letters to our parents, so forgive me for all the times I have complained. I really don’t have to complain about anything. Everything is great here! But really at the beginning of the mission you want to complain about everything, but as you man up for 2 years you realize you were just being a little girl and anything that doesn't kill you builds character, and who doesn't want more character? A mission is a great thing. Unfortunately, as much as it’s made me more of a man mentally and spiritually, physically... I’m not becoming that tall, jacked, handsome returned missionary that I thought I would be as an upside on coming home...nope.. we walk a lot and eat a lot of chicken....which also builds character!

Other than a great mission conference, this last week was pretty normal. We found a bunch of new people to teach and a few potential baptisms, but only one of them came to church. It was Carlinho a 12-year-old boy that has a lot of family problems but went to church and   wants to be a part of Gods kingdom and family on earth. We found him doing contacts on the street and have been teaching him last week. His parents are in to everything that parents shouldn't be into so we are happy as elders and friends to help him. I walked him around the church yesterday to show him around so he could feel a little at home and I said  “hey you want to know something cool”, he asked what, I said “the moment you are baptized, this chapel becomes yours!!” He asked what I meant and I explained to him that God loves him so much that he built a giant house full of friends and family, then sent two 20-year-olds all the way from the USA to find him and to bring him to this giant home full of family. “Look how way awesome God is!" I said. He’s a great kid!  I’ll keep you up to date next week to let you know what happens with him.

This week rained a lot again, but we managed to work just as much and be just as effective. It’s a lot different working here than in Garanhuns because everyone here already knows about the church and there is a LOT of anti-Mormon stuff, so when you leave a house a lot of the time you leave knowing that someone before the time we get back will throw a bunch of anti-Mormon stuff in their faces. Sad, sad. But luckily God  is stronger that Satan. Light overcomes darkness and as long as we are looking we will find God´s references that he has for us, and they won’t be stumbled by the ignorance of men! Hurrah!

Today for p-day we went to a place called Mercado São José (Saint john market), which has a ton of cool Pernambuco/Brazil stuff. We walked around and looked at the stuff they had and then bought açaí shakes, which is a type of fruit shake that is super delicious! It comes from Manaus (Amazons) but is sold here too. It’s just a little more expensive.

I love you all. Have a great week!!!!

Elder LeSueur
