Hey family!!!
Thanks sooo much for the great email Mom and Dad. It's good to hear that everyone is great! I can't believe what Asher did to Mel's room (is that still Grandpa Breck's Asian room?). Can Asher even walk? Man I'm so behind. You leave on a mission thinking that everything goes on hold for you. Too bad the world doesn't revolve around me. Congrats on Mel's big win and her B-day. Allie almost finishing EVIT and the new Gilbert Mission!!! I had found out that Gilbert would be a mission a few months back but how cool. I'm so stoked to help the elders out when I get home. It will be like I'm still an elder....except I'll be able to sleep on Sundays and have a girlfriend :)
Anyway, it's good to hear that everything is great there. Seeing that you are all happy makes me happy. It's so good to know how strong the church is at home- that's a comforting thought.
This past week was pretty crazy here in Brazil because of some HUGE protests that happened in the bigger cities (like you most likely saw on the news). It hit just about every city but luckily Garanhuns is a little, clean, peaceful city, so not too much happened here. What did happen, is we found a super awesome family that is way too perfect too be true. It is a younger married couple that looks like they could be from Gilbert. They are Marcos and Juliana. They loved the messages we left and when we talked about eternal families and marriage in the temple for time and all eternity the first question they asked was how they could do it and what was needed for them to be sealed forever together. The truth is sweet and touches those spirits that really have the desire to progress. We could have said baptism and we probably should have but before they can get baptized they have to go to church. Unfortunately this weekend and Monday was a holiday called São João (Saint John). Evidently this guy is super special and the whole interior of Pernambuco stops to burn huge bon fires in the front of their houses on his day. So this family was out of town on Sunday.
If you remember Luciana, she went to church Sunday and is sooo close to being baptized. We are praying and doing everything we can to help her, literally everything (some people just take longer than others). Yesterday we went there and she told us that she had a dream with me in it. In the dream she described us in a place with people wearing white and described the clothes that we wear in the temple.....Elder W. Ferreira and I looked at each other super surprised. She had a dream of us in the temple! We didn't tell her that she had described perfectly the sacred clothing that is worn in the temple, but were amazed, knowing that one day (soon) she will be able to go through for herself.
This week we have also been doing a lot of contacts in the rain (its raining a ton all day) which is no fun and we keep finding people that just want to bible bash which can be fun... but is pretty annoying at the same time. We try to stay away from those people. We have been talking to a guy from the 7th Day Adventists church. They are everywhere here, a church that broke off from our church and believes that Saturday is the Sabbath day (in Portuguese Sabbath and Saturday are the same word "Sabado" so its pretty complicated for them to understand).
Also something pretty sad happened this week, our ward mission leader named Cesar in my last area hung himself. He had some depression problems, but left his wife and two daughters here. The whole stake was devastated and even more all of us missionaries who worked with him for the last 6 months were super sad.
