Dear Family,
This week was great but over all pretty normal other than the trip to Recife. We left like normal at 2 am to catch a ride to Recife for the ZL training. We got there at the church around 7:30 am and hung out with the secretaries until the church opened. It was way cool to see Elder Ribeiro, Elder King, Elder Da Silva, Elder McLean, Elder McLaws (from Mesa) and a few other elder buds from the mission. The training was pretty simple. President played the world wide missionary work transmission from the 21st, so we watched that again and then talked a little more about it as a mission. I liked how President Monson said that this is the time that missionaries and members will be, and need to be, working together. Way cool. This work is awesome and truly guided by the Lord! After the training we caught the long ride back home to Garanhuns and still had a little time to do a family night with a member family and a few nonmember friends they invited.
The rest of the week was a lot of running around to make up for the lost day on Tuesday but we managed to find a bunch of new investigators that seem to have potential. One lady named Maria Aparecida, and a man named Breno who both seemed way elect and when Sunday came they both had other things going on which was a huge let down. BUT, we have been teaching a family who said they probably wouldn't be able to make it to church and we had told them during the week that either way we would stop by their house to pick them up. We got there Sunday morning and the whole family was ready! It was awesome! The only problem is that the man and woman need to get married, so we'll be working with them for a while. We had seven investigators in the church which was way cool! Oh, and one child that I thought was a member turns out that he hasn't been baptized yet. His sister is a member, so we'll start teaching him and get him in the water soon. Raquel, who was baptized Sunday, was confirmed a member yesterday during sacrament meeting. The spirit was so strong!
Yesterday we did some visits with our ward mission leader. We visited two ladies who haven't been going to church because of serious health problems. It was great to see them, visit with them and show them that even when all seems dark and the difficulties of the world and trials of this life loom over their heads, the members of the church are there to show love and give help. A ward that doesn't have anyone visiting anyone is a ward without purpose. The wards here in Pernambuco have problems with home teaching. Hardly anyone does it which is the main problem for so many baptisms going inactive. Luckily the ward I'm in is one of the strongest wards in the mission. But it will be nice to enjoy the huge strong wards we've got in the US.
This week it rained again like crazy the whole week and people here don't like to open their doors to the elders when its raining!:( But overall it was a great week with a lot of learned lessons.
With love,
Elder LeSueur
