Hey Family!!!
First off, I want to ask about some type of tornado that hit in the US that everyone here is telling me happened in AZ, and destroyed a bunch of stuff...but I haven’t heard anything else about it so i don’t think that it’s true.
Also we all heard about President Monson's wife, which is a sad/happy thing. Grandma made it sound like President Monson looked a little frail also. Speaking of frail older people we had 4 baptisms this Sunday. Two before church and two after. The two before church were complete miracles. Last Sunday the former stake president (President Campos) came up to us and said that his parents-in-law wanted to be baptized. So Elder Ribeiro and I didn't really do anything. All we did was organize the baptismal service Sunday morning and get everything ready and take pictures with them. But it was a great baptism. You could see how happy President Campos and his wife were to have their parents making the binding covenant with God to finally open the door to their eternal salvation. This is not pleasure or any type of happiness that lasts a little while, but an everlasting joy that continues on to the eternities. I am so glad my whole family is a part of this great work!
After church we also had the special opportunity to baptize Edite (75) and her friend José (101). We found them a couple weeks ago knocking doors and they felt a strong desire to be baptized in the TRUE CHURCH. Edite had been baptized countless times but never felt that they were right. José is just great! He’s 101 years old and had been smoking and drinking for a long long time. We challenged him to stop smoking and drinking and he agreed to it and really truly stopped. I was pretty shocked. It seemed so easy for him. It also shocks me how he manages to talk, dance around and be so excited all the time. We helped him put on the baptismal clothes and he got so excited and began dancing and telling everyone how great he looked. Also he has a hearing problem so we have to yell really loud to make him hear us. “JOSÉ YOU ARE GETTING BAPTIZED RIGHT NOW". "JOSÉ STEP INTO THE WATER, YOU ARE GETTING BAPTIZED REMEMBER" and then he remembers and gets all excited. JOSÉ AFTER THE PRAYER PUT YOUR HAND OVER YOUR MOUTH AND FALL BACK!". "JOSÉ YOU CAN BREATH NOW, JOSÉ YOU CAN BREATH, THE BAPTISM IS OVER, IT’S OVER!”......Only until he couldn’t hold his breath anymore, then he took his hand off his mouth. It was great :)
Let’s see, what else.... Elder Ribeiro and I are finally feeling better, which is great. And we fixed the shower. For awhile the shower was broken and it just dripped scorching water. We've just been running around a ton this week and trying to find new people to baptize for this next week.
The family we almost got into the water (which is also the family whose house that we were at when we skyped on Mother’s Day), they all got super super "molle" (mully), uninterested, which we always say is the missionaries fault, not the investigators, but we have tried everything and Sunday they didn't want to go to church so depressingly we will have to stop visiting them like we were, or try again with other missionaries some other day. But it’s sad when you grow attached to people who really need the church and you do all you can to help them and in the end they reject all you have to offer.
This Thursday we get to go to Recife (The Big City) to go to the temple... WHOOO!! and then go to a mission training with a member of the Seventy of the Church (I’m hoping that they are just pulling our leg and it is really Elder Holland. Especially since before the training the LZ´s have training with him. It’s always fun to go to Recife so this week will be great.
Well not too much else is happening. Pretty much the same old... contacting, teaching, getting references and working :)
